DIY VeloWeen Looks by Retro

How many more days, how many more jerseys, until that hallowed night?

All of us will ride, turned ruddy by the tail lights, but who will return, that is the question,

when ghosts provide the riding directions?

At Retro, We Love Veloween!

Halloween doesn't have to just mean candy and beer and dressing up in silly costumes. It can mean all of that AND bikes! Whether you're biking to a bar or taking the kids out on two wheels, Retro makes riding and costuming fun and simple. Thanks to our unique designs, you can wear your costume without ever leaving your bike! We made fun and simple costumes from our Lost Empires Collection!

Here's some DIY tips for making a fun, unique costume on the cheap!

We crafted up the accessories for both Cleopatra and Julius Caesar for under $12.00 each!

Here's what you'll need:

Cleopatra-

  • 5/8 yard of Gold Sequin Stretch Trim (available at any fabric store such as Hobby Lobby or Joann's)
  • 3 foot long Plain Gold Chain
  • Basic needle and thread
  • Needle nose plyers

Measure the Trim around your head. Sew with a simple stitch to fit.

Next, split the chain into six equal pieces. Take your pliers and undo o-rings in each spot. Now take those open o-rings and use them to connect to the headband in 3 places on each side, making the pieces hang from the headband. Bam! Simple as that. Now just do your make-up to fit the part! We used Elizabeth Taylor's look from the 1963 film Cleopatra!

Julius Caesar-

  • Floral Wire
  • Floral Tape
  • 1 small bundle of Artificial Leaves
  • Gold Spray Paint

For Caesar, we took the wire to make a loose crown on our model's head. Overlap the wire and twist it around itself at the ends. Cover the sharp ends with floral tape. Now start wrapping one stem of leaves around the wire at a time. Attach with floral tape. Once finished, take outside or to a safe area and spray paint the entire crown gold. Let it dry and then flip over to spray paint the other side. And Voila!

We picked up all of these supplies in one trip at our local craft store. Pro Tip: Download the Michael's and JoAnn's apps on your phone for coupons. JoAnn's will accept competitor coupons and you can use one coupon per regularly priced item.
